DOE Launches Round 3 of its Industrial Energy Assessments
August
24, 2007
DOE’s Industrial Technology Program (ITP) has launched its
third round of energy assessments to help industrial plants identify
energy- and cost-savings at their manufacturing facilities. Get
on the path to energy savings by applying for a Save Energy Now
energy assessment! Visit the Save
Energy Now Web site for more information and to apply.
Since the Save Energy Now campaign began in 2005, DOE's Energy Experts
have performed energy assessments at 324 industrial plants throughout
the United States. The assessments primarily focus on energy-intensive
systems such as compressed air, fans, pumping, process heating,
and steam.
To date, the assessments have identified potential
cost savings of $574 million per year. So far, the participating
plants have planned improvements that will yield $263 million
in annual energy savings. If the plants fully implement these recommendations,
they will, on average, reduce their energy bill by more than 7%
and $2.3 million per year. Furthermore this translates into a potential
CO2 emissions reduction of 3.75 million tons per year.
Round 3 applications for energy assessments opened on August 20,
2007. DOE will make its initial selections of industrial plants
for energy assessments starting in mid-September; additional selections
will be announced periodically until the target of 250 assessments
is reached for the calendar year 2008. Why wait? Apply
today.
